Dancing with your Baby can Improve their Brain Development and Health!
You
put on some music and start dancing while doing the dishes to get in a good mood.
Why not include your baby?
Studies show that getting
your groove on with the little one can actually promote their health and
development, as well as improve their social skills for life!
Health
and Growth
Movement for
your baby increases cerebrospinal fluid circulation, causing more blood flow to
your baby's now active brain! These studies and others cited by Dr.
Michael Hogan in Psychology Today prove that dancing with your babe
even boosts their immune system, and promotes bone growth!
Motor
Development
Studies
show that babies who are held and passed around with music and movement typically
sit and walk sooner than other babies, because their vestibular system
is being stimulated, helping them with the balance needed to sit, walk, and
run!
Socio-Cognitive
Skills
Dancing
can help your baby to become people savvy! Sue Doherty writes in her book
"Dancing with
Your BABY: For Bonding and Better Health for
Both of You"
that research has shown while dancing with a care-giver, baby's brains
fire more mirror neurons which are associated with a person's ability to
recognize emotion and motivation in others. Also, listening and dancing
to enjoyable music leads to the activation of the limbic system and frontal
lobe which is responsible for emotional regulation and processing. So
dancing with your baby can make them people smart too!
It's just fun! A
great stress reliever for you and an exciting bonding experience for your
baby, dancing stimulates all parts of her brain and body, nurturing her
psychological development of trust. So get your dance moves on!
How to Break it Down with Baby:
Dancing is just as simple as moveing in time to music- if your baby is very small you can rock them and move them in a gentle, rhythmic way to calming
music and get all the benefits of dancing!
Dance with Care:
1. Always Spin slowly 2. Don't overstimulate your baby- listen for
their cues 3. Move baby gently and in a way that won't cause sudden movements
to their heads or necks 4. Enjoy! Smile with your happy baby- getting movement
is good for you too!
Wishing you happiness and health for you and your baby!
